and the "Mother of the Year" award goes to.....

I apologize that I haven't posted in awhile things have been busy, so I thought I would kick it off with a real winner of a story:
So I have been trying to watch the movie "27 Dresses" for the last three days. I have been catching different parts here and there and then I'd get interrupted. The reason for me concentrating so hard on finishing it is that my mother-in-law redboxed it for me and it had continued to sit at my house and charge her money, so I decided last night I would hurry and watch the end and take it back by the deadline. So I need to preface this story with the fact that all last night I was cleaning up a little before I sat down to watch the movie, I was going up and down the stairs, putting things away, organizing, etc. Abby was playing and then she would follow me down the stairs, and everything was going well. In fact I was thinking how well she was maneuvering the stairs lately and that we hadn't had any accidents.......well I spoke too soon.
I was watching my movie while Abby played in the family room and she decided to go up the stairs, I didn't think anything of it because she had been doing it all night. Well all of a sudden I heard her toppling down the stairs and and got to her right as she reached the bottom. Immediately the tears and the blood start to come and I am trying to hold her and figure out where the blood is coming from. I ran upstairs and set her on the kitchen counter as I try to access her, calm her down, and use a wet paper towel to clean up the blood that kept coming from her mouth. I thought immediately that she had knocked one of her teeth loose or something as her lip began to swell and I got the bleeding to stop I realized that it was her lip that was cut and nothing else. I felt SO AWFUL! My baby had gotten hurt because of my negligence and need to watch a stupid movie, and to boot I didn't have a car so if anything more serious would have happened I wouldn't have had a way to get to the ER. We sold our car and Jake had the truck, he was supposed to be arriving home soon, but who knows if he would have been held up what I would have done.
I just am so glad Abby is OK, and grateful her fall wasn't more serious. She could have banged her head on the door at the bottom of the stairs or broken something, so besides a fat lip and a loser for a mother, she's doing great!

If you are a loser of a mother, than I must be the queen of the losers. Kylee's has fell down the stairs twice in one day. Luckily, she didn't have any cuts at all and she is super careful on them now. She always has bruises that I don't even know how she got them. I think you are still an awesome mom! And you know I'm super close to you so if you ever need a ride, just call.

Don't kick yourself for that At.All. We have all done it. If you are Mother of the Year, then get in line!:) She will be fine, and you are an amazing mom.

A lesson I need to learn myself: You aren't neglecting your kids if you do something YOU want to do once in a while. Before long, your basket is empty and you have nothing left to give. So, though it may seem like just a "stupid movie," it is a time out for you to do something you like to do!

And about the no car thing...Silly, I live RIGHT HERE! And I would be more than happy to give you a ride if you are ever in a bind! You better call if you ever need anything!

Stop beating yourself up. You are a great mother...I have seen you with Abby. She knows you love her and that is what counts. You have great neighbors who would be willing to help at any time so call on one of them. We miss you guys.

You are a great mother, every kid falls and gets a fat lip at some point. And if it was more serious I would hope that you would know that you have plenty of friends that live close (including me) that would drop everything and come running to help.
I think it's cute that she can still smile with a fat lip.

Please try to take better care of our God Daughter. If anything happens to you, "God forbid" and we are going to be taking care of her, we don't want her to have any "problems." :)

Um, count me in that list of friends that would have come running. You can utilize us you know.

My kids have had more than their share of bumps and bruises. Heck, I figure it's payback for all of the times they have wacked me in the eye with a barbie or thrown their heads back and given me a fat lip.

Mouth injuries heel so quickly. It will be a distant memory before you know it...and then you will look back and laugh...or at least crack a smile.

You are an awesome mom Allison. Don't let this get you down. She is lucky to have a mom that loves her so much.

And "27 Dresses" is absolutely hilarious.

AL-
You are so funny! Don't you love those mommy moments when you feel like it is your fault. She would have done it even if you weren't watching the movie. It stinks when they get hurt but, they are much tougher then we are! She is still cute even with her fat lip!

Poor girl! I'm glad she's okay. Toddlers can't stay away from bumps and bruises. Mystery bruises are a part of toddlerhood! I don't even remember how many times Bugs has fallen down the stairs. Even once she got the hang of them she was a little careless and down she went. And, of course, you get there right when they are at the bottom. It's all is slow motion!

Hillary is right - don't feel guilty for having some "me" time. Oh, and I loved 27 Dresses too. :) Love ya!

Oh Al...I am so sorry. I am so glad Abby is ok. We all have our moments like that, and accidents happen, so don't be too hard on yourself. You are a great mother!
